Tale of Many Wrinkles
Once upon a time, long ago there lived an old man in a shack, on a lonely hillside. He was sad and lonely. Worried because he was not as handsome and good looking as he once was. Over time he had become a hermit, only going out when he really had to… for he hated meeting people.
The children from the nearby village use to laugh and call him names. And you will ask why? What is wrong with a sad lonely old chap living with only the mice and rats for companions? Simply because he had the most wrinkles and crinkles imaginable. But though the village children laughed at the poor old fellow, they did not know the true story of the wrinkles.
Each wrinkle had a tale to tell. The wrinkle over the old mans eye arrived the day his house roof was blown off in a storm. That deep furrow to the left of his chin was put there when his only daughter was eaten by bears. And the furrow next to his nose came because his 3 best cows were taken by wolves. The other grooves, furrows, ditches and ridges came from other sad events the poor man had encountered in his life. Worries, cares and heartache had made the man ugly… through no fault of his own. His life had been a life of tragic circumstance.
So my friend, if you know someone who doesn’t look as pretty as a candy store at Christmas (even covered with warts, wrinkles and bunions) it is of small matter. The Lord sees the heart and judges accordingly. Do likewise and you will meet true happiness. Real beauty is not on the outside, but on the inside. A beautiful face with a hard heart is a curse. But an ugly face with a pure heart is worth more than all the jewels in the world.
Dear God, please bless all the people who don’t look the best
For you don’t care – Just the spirit you take to your rest
Warts and wrinkles and bunions
Olives, apples and onions
And so are we on that great Judgement day
When we stand before God in all his array
