The Sin of Untruthfulness
Proverbs 19: 9
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
John 8:34
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Have you ever told an untruth? Sure! We all have? Did it make you feel good? Ah! That’s harder… if you are a Christian it would have hurt real deep, but if you are an unbeliever you’ll just shrug your shoulders and laugh.
Of course, we as Christians always feel bad if we lie, because we realise the pain Jesus feels. If a Christian continually tells untruths, their relationship with the Lord will not grow and they will end up with all kinds of problems, both mentally and spiritually. Their health will deteriorate as the untruth starts to gnaw away at their heart. In the worse case their relationship with God becomes suspect. They need to really check out that they truly are in the faith.
There is absolutely no reason to keep living a lie… no excuse at all. If a person has done wrong, it was all forgiven at Calvary. Jesus bled and died that we might have life eternal. What could a man ever do that he cannot clear up the untruth? To my mind, there is nothing… absolutely NOTHING that can separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ Our Lord!
I agree confession is the hardest part bear… but if we have sinned against someone for whatever reason, how much more has Jesus given up for us? Friends, I know its hard to stop living a lie, but always remember, the benefit to be gained is so much more than the little pain of confession. Perhaps your loved ones will hate you for it… but please know your Father in Heaven will rejoice because of your admission.
It is far better to glorify the Lord, than to keep your friends at peace by continuing the untruths. Once those you have deceived have died you will still have the scars of the lie upon your heart. Those scars will go into eternity with you…
Let Jesus erase them now… he is waiting to bring you peace, precious peace.
Colossians 3:9 (King James Version)
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds…
Proverbs 12:19 (King James Version)
The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Ephesians 4:25 (King James Version)
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Revelation 21:8 (King James Version)
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
