Christmas Morning
Silently the little lad tiptoed down the stair
With a bright smile stretching from ear to ear
His golden curls sparkled in the glistening morning sun
That was peeping through the open windows and proving the long weary night was done
Eyes shone with eagerness
Hands shook with bliss
As the boy approached the Christmas tree
He was filled with happy glee
Stockings and presents lay beneath the tree
A contented chuckle burst from the lad as he fell upon his knee
“My brother!” said a voice behind
“Why could you not wait for me; you know I mind.”
Reaching for his stocking the boy gave a giggle
And said with a happy little wriggle
"O sister dear, I could not sleep
My patience I could not keep
"So I came along to gaze
Just to stare and think upon this maze."
His sister smiled and beside him sat
Cross-legged upon the soft mat
The pair stayed that way for over an hour
Till at last their siblings decided that now
They would rise and shine
And share the love divine
The house rang with good cheer
As hugs and kisses for those so dear
Were given with abandon
To show the great love of the Captain
Paper and ribbons were heedlessly ripped apart
Mummy and Daddy smiled and looked into each others heart
Their wonderful children were happy
And they themselves felt merry
Suddenly Daddy stood up strong and tall
“My children please wait one and all”
The children paused to look up at their Daddy
And he stared back at his family so rowdy
"Let us thank the Lord who gave us these presents
And who, throughout the year has provided wonderful guidance."
Bending their heads in prayer
The family called the Lord near
And Father prayed:
Dearest Jesus, thank-you for your blessing
Thank-you for being our royal King
Thank-you for the stars that shine at night
Thank-you for the power to do right
Thank-you for the river of life that flows within
Thank-you for forgiving our sin
Lord, thank-you for my wife and children
Please guide us on our march toward Zion
Onward and upward… to that wonderful city of God
