Christmas 2012
Its Christmas morn’
And I sit up to watch the dawn
Babes around the world silent sleep
The world is hushed… lo, without a peep
Present’s stand waiting, stockings are full
Larders and cupboards are loaded to the sill
Millions are sleeping, dreaming of a happy time
Perhaps of brandy, beer and wine
Maybe of chocolate, lolly’s or a fast highway ride
Whatever it is, smiling they will be when they sit by the morning fireside
But let’s spare a little thought for the homeless soul
The ones out under the bridge living on the dole
His feet are bare… her hair is in a tangle
So lonely they wish somehow their neck they could strangle
Peace doesn’t exist… true love has no home in their heart
Because they have no-one to give them a happy start
They will be crying in pain and sorrow
As the rich awake to wealth upon the morrow
Though we cannot help every hurting soul
We can at least look kindly upon the shattered poll
It isn’t their fault they have no family, nor their fault they have no money
For surely it’s a cruel heart who finds this funny
I wish I could feed the worlds starving hearts and fill the aching void
But I can do no more than tell them of my precious Lord
He who came to earth on that first Christmas morn’ 2,000 years ago
The words of eternal life He surely did sow
Wake up world and see this earth is passing away
Rise up and do not delay
For Christmas is just for today
My Jesus reigns forever… truly I say
Take Him at His word and bow to His call
Don’t make the wrong choice and come a nasty fall
Think of the suffering hearts of this world and remember that though your smile might be bright on Christmas Day… it shall surely fade on Boxing Day, that is, unless you heed the Masters call!
