Cultural Christianity (Catholicism)
They will go to church, yes, but they won’t really believe anything they hear. Don’t be taken in by people like that. They are the kind who craftily sneak into other people’s homes and make friendships with silly, sin-burdened women and teach them their new doctrines. Women of that kind are forever following new teachers, but they never understand the truth. [2 Timothy 3:5-7]
Professing to be a Christian because it’s a cultural thing is very sad. Cultural Christianity is like a car without an engine... it’s not a faith, it’s a name tag. Following the pagan rituals of Catholicism is just like that. Jesus is our living Lord! He isn’t a myth followed because it’s part of ones heritage. He is our risen King! He isn’t something we read about in the musty pages of a prayer book.
The Catholic Church for instance is a good example of mans need for something to see to believe. With its idols and rituals they lead people to the slaughter. Mindless unthinking people follow the rituals because it’s what they have been told to do. It’s what they have grown up knowing. If they only questioned what they do. If they only asked thoughtful questions they would see the futility of praying to a stiff statue or a long dead ‘saint’.
All the answers to our questions can be found in the Word of God. He said, “I am the Way—yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me.” [John 14: 6]
So praying to a statue of Mary isn’t going to get anyone closer to the Father! Jesus said so Himself. Living the true Christian life is to be born again of the Spirit of God. Going to a church doesn’t make a spot of difference. But getting on ones knees and crying out to the Lord will!
Seek Him and you will find Him. Only in Him is the key to eternal life. The Catholic Church is a pagan institution founded in witchcraft and idolatry.
The only way to gain eternal life is to repent of one’s past. This means to regret and hate the person we’ve been before. We need to then ask God forgiveness for our sins. Until we recognize we’re sinners condemned to the deepest Hell we cannot comprehend the goodness and mercy of Christ. When Jesus truly comes into our life we are born again.
This means we are brand new creations in Him. The past is gone and we’re on a brand new journey. Cultural Christianity has no Hope. It has no love and there is no cost. True biblical Christianity requires giving up EVERYTHING for Jesus. So people need to count the cost and be sure they want to pay the price of following the Lord; because the cost can involve things like losing one’s friends; sometimes even husbands and wives will part! It can mean losing a job or having no money.
But for me there is no question. I want to follow Him because it’s what He requires of us in His Holy Word. Though none go with me, still I will follow!
